QUEEN’S ROYAL COURT – NON-COMPETITIVE

RULES AND PROCEDURES
1. Young woman must be 13 -17 years of age to be a member of Queen’s Royal Court and part Czech, Slovak, Moravian or Silesian.
2. Young woman must appear in Czech-Slovakian folk dress (kroj) for Kroj Critique. Imported Czech/Slovak or Moravian folk dress is acceptable but
must be declared as such and entered in Nationality Division. Folk dresses created by candidate may be a replica of an authentic kroj in Nationality
Division or an Americanized costume entered into the American Division.
3. Talent act is limited to no more than 4 minutes. Each contestant must present a talent presentation. The talent may be singing, dancing, playing a musical instrument, dramatic reading, poetry, writing, a 4 minute presentation related to an ethnic subject. The list is unlimited. If tape is used for
accompaniment it must be strictly instrumental, not vocal. An accompanist is allowed to perform on stage with candidate. Assistance is available to help
with this.
4. A description of the Czech-Slovak folk dress must be sent in with entry form. This will be read aloud as the folk dress is modeled on stage during Kroj
Event. Describe in detail as one would to a blind person. Mention if it is handmade, if candidate helped make it and if any part of the trim or cloth or
costume is from an ancestor’s dress. No more than 250 words in length. Assistance is available and some Krojes (folk dresses) are available for
loan.
5. An essay, “WHAT MY HERITAGE MEANS TO ME” OF 250 WORDS SHOULD BE SUBMITTED WITH THE APPLICATION. This essay must be read by entrant during the Royal Court events.
6. Applications must be received no later than May 31. Send completed entry form, copy of family tree (may be brief description to substantiate heritage.) head and shoulders photograph for newspaper use, kroj description with declared division and title of talent presentation. This information should be mailed to Vernette Moravek, N8691 Storms Rd, Phillips, WI 54555. 7. Entrants must be present at all events specified and at the crowning of Miss Czech Slovak Wisconsin State Queen on Sunday to become a member of the Queen’s Royal Court.
There are no sponsors nor sponsorship fees.
Judges will meet with each individual to comment on areas of strength and make suggestions for improvement in the event they wish to
participate in competition in future years.
