The vision of The Phillips Czechoslovakian Festival states "We honor all those who came before us by celebrating our heritage and teaching our children about the past.”. The Little Sibling program of the Miss Czech-Slovak WI Pageant for those boys and girls aged 7-12 as part of the pageant is just one way we encourage our youth to learn more about our unique heritage. Boys and Girls who are Little Siblings do not have to be of Czech, Slovak, Silesian, Rusyn or Moravian descent. Their “job” is to “shadow” queen candidates and Royal Court members during this ethnic festival and pageant Friday and Saturday.
Kroje, especially for Little Siblings does not need to be elaborate or fancy. In fact, for outdoor events, authentic vintage pieces are probably more stressful for the parent (especially if borrowing a kroj). Young female simple generic kroje consists of a simple dirndl skirt. fancy white apron, embroidered peasant blouse, white socks/anklets/red tights, black shoes, and a head wreath of silk flowers/ribbons. Young male simple generic kroje consists of embroidered blouse, vest, tan or black pants. black socks and shoes. Some young males wear a black felt hat. Parents are responsible for making an appointment for a fitting of a kroj (folk dress) for their child unless they have a kroj of their own. Please contact Linda Windmoeller at 715-339-4245 to set up a fitting time prior to June 9th. If you do not possess your own, there are enough little sister kroje available for use. The little sibling shadows are to supply their own white anklets, socks, tights and black shoes. Little Siblings are expected to shadow their candidate to all festival events including the Lidice Memorial Service on Friday night and Pageant events Saturday Morning and Saturday Evening. Parents/guardians are expected to get their children to event venues and monitor their daughters for the entire festival. Download the Little Sibling Permission Application form below.
