Wisconsin State Kolacky Baking Contest Rules & Categories
Rules
1) Any individual may enter the Wisconsin State Kolacky baking contest.
2) All entries must be baked and delivered to the pavilion in Elk Lake Park between 10:00 am to 10:30 on Saturday of the festival weekend (June 15, 2024)
3) One entry form must be filled out for each category entered (see below for download link).
4) Six (6) kolacky of the same flavored must be provided for judging, except for category #5
5) Decision of the judges are final and are based on the criteria listed below each category
6) Winners and prizes will be announced on Saturday afternoon after the kolacky eating contest at 4:00pm.
7) Kolacky not used may be used in other festival activities
8) The winner of the previous year may not enter the same category for the current year
9) Only one (1) entry per category.
Entry Categories
1. Category One: Traditional Kolacky: Must be made of poppy seed, prune, or cottage cheese.
2. Category Two: Modern Kolacky: Made with any type of filling other than what is made in the traditional category.
3. Category Three: Pastries Style Kolacky Made with a pastry dough rather than a traditional raised bread dough.
4. Category Four: Youth Baked Kolacky Ages 12 and under.
5. Category Four: Largest Kolacky Well...it's large. Big. Gigantic. Huge. You get the idea.
Categories 1-4 will be judged based on looks, smell, taste, and texture.
Category 5 (Largest) will be judged based on size, appearance, shape, weight, taste, and color (Scientific approach used)
Prizes will be awarded in each category.
