Miss Czech-Slovak Wisconsin Candidate Sponsorship

 
Any business, church group, civic organization,  individual or group of individuals may sponsor a candidate for the Miss Czech-Slovak Wisconsin State Pageant.  These guidelines have been established to assist you in carrying out your responsibility as a sponsor.         
 
The pageant takes place Friday and Saturday during the 3rd full weekend in June at Phillips,  Wisconsin. All candidates will meet at for a rehearsal on Friday afternoon.  At that time candidates will be introduced and given Little Sister Shadow assignments. It  is imperative that all contestants be on time as a representative from other pageants will be there to give contestants tips on how to conduct themselves on  stage.  If your candidate is not present, she will be at a disadvantage.  Supper will be provided for candidates, their parents, Little Sister Shadows and their parents.  A memorial service for the Village of Lidice, Czechoslovakia will take place at 7:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church and a short walk to Sokol Park for the laying of the wreaths (weather permitting). Contestants are requested to wear their competition kroje for the ceremony, after which private interviews will take place.
 
Your candidate may look to you for guidance. Please review contest rules with your candidate so that all requirements are understood and met. In the coming months it may be good to encourage practice and development of their talent.  Appropriate help may be requested from voice teachers, community musicians, teachers, etc. It may be good to check occasionally on their progress.

Candidates are asked to supply their own sash and kroj (folk dress.).  Assistance is available for kroj ideas. Please ask a committee member for help  if needed.  Queen candidates should choose a kroj similar to those worn in the village of their ancestors. Books are available for research.   The candidate may choose an appropriate title from  the village their family comes from, i.e., Miss Bohemia, Czech Belle, Miss Sviny, etc.   The sash should be worn with the candidate’s title shown on it. 

Should your candidate become Miss Czech-Slovak Wisconsin State Queen, she will represent the State of Wisconsin at the national level in Wilber, Nebraska, the first weekend in August of the following year. At that time you and the Phillips Czechoslovakian Community Festival Committee will sponsor her, jointly, at no further cost to you.

Contest deadline is May 31st each year. Forms should be completed and post-marked/emailed no later than that date. Applications received after that date may not be accepted.  Please provide the $50 sponsorship fee to the Phillips Czechoslovakian Community Festival to as part of your application.  (*If the application is postmarked by 15 May, entry fee is reduced to $25).
